He should've set fire to the police station and left a nice hamper on the doorstep of everyone else in the town, with a hand-written note attached: "So sorry about this, but your sheriff is an arsehole. Lots of love, John Rambo."

Entirely heartfelt, beautiful words, but maybe - as trained actors - they were able to enter an almost out-of-body zone of composure while delivering those eulogies? Astonishing, though, whatever the explanation.

And hats off to director Colin Hanks for making a doc in which the audience will be in tears *at the start*, rather than merely at the end. Yes, his dad - who only made one film with JC - doesn't have much to contribute beyond "He was funny & I liked him", but the other talking heads are good value.

Plus long, methodical, strangely hypnotic MacGyver-esque scenes of people constructing, deconstructing and just plain working out things from whatever materials they have to hand. A Gilligan obsession.

It was such a blast, a truly great piece of television. Well done everyone. And it'll be even better next year when Reece Shearsmith is a contestant - one can but dream.
