Charlie don’t surf - Kilgore is one of my favorite characters. Godfather’s consigliere, too. His Oscar-winning role as Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies should be taught in every drama class. He got Oscar-snubbed for The Great Santini. Secondhand Lions, The Natural, etc. - it’s all an amazing resumé.

Just read this classic again. To anyone near Scott Smith - have him write another novel. His last one “The Ruins” (another of my favorites) was almost 20 years ago!
