*WRONG*, there are still 60%-90% of non imported products that are made in the US. Some of those products may be made with a percentage of imported items, and indirectly (fuel, replacement parts for machines, etc) mean everything is very slightly affected by tariffs. But not an overall 18% increase!

I prefer to be called someone that understands the science and is able to accept a future that includes inevitable mass extinctions.

Doomer is pejorative name designed to create a negative association and influence opinions without critical examination.

That I'm uneducated, and can see more than 'the best in the world' scares me. I don't know how to communicate the peril ahead to the masses, but oversimplifying and narrow focus is not going to do it. There is no solution, only preparation for massive planetary change.

You're a professor of climate science? You don't seem to understand the basics. Yes, we'll hit 2.7 (on our way to much higher) and yes it will be catastrophic, but this isn't 'new' nor is it due to 'current policies'. Read some Hansen, maybe revisit your basic math.

I'd also be interested to hear examples of a few of the "most extreme doomer yarns — which aren’t based in science".

Just as an interesting side note ...

Not giving up, just realigning priorities in the face of overwhelming predicable science. Realisticly 8 billion won't survive, but we could stave off extinction.

Food could be grown indoors. The Netherlands is already producing 35% of its vegetables this way. You won't be able to feed 8 billion, but at least it's better than everyone starving.

Start by saying the warming inertia of the earth will take us well beyond +5⁰c (re Hansen) no matter what. We're not giving up our fossil fuels, so all efforts should be put into infrastructure and preparedness. Not to mention all the unforeseen events and consequences we can't prepare for.

People don't realize this loophole because all past presidents have been better people.

A two term president can run for any other office including Vice President, then fill the position a 3rd, 4th, etc time when the elected president (Don Jr. For example) steps down after inauguration.

Depends if their opinion is based on a logical foundation or just a belief. If it's the later then you're out of luck. If it's the former you can both have a logical disagreement and maybe one of your viewpoints will change.

I'm more pessimistic about his domestic and foreign policies. Add to your list...
- DOJ aggressively prosecutes the press and judiciary who've acted against him historically.
- Pulls out of NATO, Paris Accord, W.H.O.
- Massive tariffs on China. Lesser tariffs on everyone else.
- No money for Ukraine

I'm thinking that inviting Trump as a weekly guest into their private homes for 14 years and having him being presented as the epitome of a strong, wealthy and successful business man (thanks Mark Burnett) has unduly influenced a huge majority of Americans.

Thanks, 95% of list blocked. A few parody accounts on here that look funny, and a few (if real) VIP MAGA that are always good to read just to see how they think and what they say.
