At this point, *not* crowing about your agency's abuse of power is the bigger risk! Gotta prove to the big man upstairs that you're sufficiently extreme in your pursuit of authoritarianism.

This is due to the lack of public civic virtue. Executives will abuse whatever power they're given. That's why the Founders created constraints, ie, separation of powers, federalism.

But I'm not sure we can long survive 40% of Americans not only tolerating but celebrating open authoritarianism.

For example, I spent years digging in dozens of archives to uncover the sordid story of how the Kennedy administration secretly targeted right-wing broadcasters with the Federal Communications Commission.

But Trump & Brendan Carr just go after Kimmel, CBS, and other media figures openly!

It was a flawed argument in 2019 that has aged like spoiled milk. Imagine Brendan Carr having any of the enhanced power that Glaser proposes!
