This is true. I could see a future president returning ICE to old staffing levels and procedures and changing the name to get rid of the stink.

Right, I’m not claiming to know what’s happening at the border when no one is watching. I think the point still stands, which is that ICE/CBP have become more violent under Trump-Miller-Noem and that it’s not too late to reverse the trend. That might mean firing bad agents. I don’t know.

I appreciate your point. But I don’t agree that the institution can’t be reformed. It’s not like these 2 agents have been shooting people all this time. They didn’t start until they were given license to. The culture comes from the top.

I don’t mean this cynically, and I agree that the arrest is outrageous and dangerous, and I’m looking forward to Lemon’s complete exoneration. But if you had tried to think up a way to revive Don Lemon’s career, you couldn’t have done any better than this. #StreisandEffect

Makes sense. I guess what I’m asking is, do you see college professors—not this or that individual, but as a group—being opposed to that? The ones I’ve known have mostly been on board with what you’re advocating.

I’ve honestly never seen them. I still think of O’Hara as a late night comedian, which is what I first saw her do. But “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice” have been at the top of all the tributes to her that I’ve seen.

Bless you for doing the parrot sketch. But Mussolini died at 61. Anyway, I’m not sure these work as analogies for our situation, b/c when all 3 of those dictators died, there was a foreign army on the ground ready to remake the government. Nobody’s going to do that for us

Here’s the giveaway. The complaint is not “She should have found a way to propose a peace plan during the campaign”—which would have been an excellent thing to do, for a host of reasons. It’s “She should have been more respectful of the protestors,” which feels a bit like the tail wagging the dog.

Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean he approves, or applauds, or thinks what Israel is doing is just, or warranted, or constructive, or will lead to a safer Middle East or a safer world. It means that he hasn’t given it a second thought.
