'This brilliant book', what a lovely compliment for my book Drax of Drax Hall. My thanks to Dorset Magazine for their review, which is just out. The reviewer also says the book "tells the story in away that's more matter of fact than judgmental." Praise indeed.

Danny Thompson died this week, a titan of the double bass. First heard him with Pentangle and their 'Light Flight' (circa 1967). Later, in May 1989, I interviewed him for The Observer. It was akin to interviewing a grizzly bear. Tough old Londoner and a one off.

Drax of Drax Hall and Tolpuddle. I'll be at the Tolpuddle Festival on Saturday 19th July in the International tent from 10.15-10.45. Tolpuddle is just eight miles from the Drax family's Charborough Park. I'll be discussing the links between the Martyrs, landed gentry and slavery.

The Esther Phillips, poet laureate of Barbados event at the Frontline Club last night turned out to be a great success. Esther was brilliant and the audience very engaged. Sold a few copies of Drax of Drax Hall as well.

Private Eye have an important piece in the Agri-Brigade column which reveals the growing deficit in our food trade. This is really serious in terms of our food security but no one in Government seems to be the least concerned.

Visited the stunning St Andrew's Church in Colyton, Devon on Monday. In 1549 Walter Erle married Mary Wyke there and that is the start of my book: Drax of Drax Hall: How One British Family Got Rich (and Stayed Rich) from Sugar and Slavery. www.plutobooks.com/978074535051...

My Book is published today. This is what Laura Trevelyan has to say: ‘Important and timely … Paul Lashmar uses the story of the Drax family’s history as enslavers in Barbados as a microcosm of Britain’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade’
