Granted I'm an outlier living 15 minutes from the Walmart Home Office, but truly the only other options available in town involve either sacrificing quality or spending several times more for the same products and oftentimes the same brands. I feel like the same tradeoffs apply to most rural areas.

Experiencing the thrill of flying almost directly over Four Corners and being able to identify most major landmarks across the region from a single vantage point is always a *chefs kiss*. Did this a week ago on work travel and it may have been the highlight of my week.

I'm also blocked by whoever posted this and I've barely posted 40 times in 2 years being here. Guess my reputation precedes me lol.

I can't speak to Little Rock (live in NW Arkansas), but depending on time of the month I recommend getting into the mountains for fall colors and a hike. Ouachita Mountains & Hot Springs are closer, but the Ozarks are within day trip range. Pinnacle Mountain is a good local option for hiking

Doesn't make it right, but it's basically the space equivalent of a territorial claim, since claiming sovereignty over any celestial body is banned under the Outer Space Treaty.

It would be for a yet-to-be-designed lunar station, and would likely be launched fully contained and preloaded with the initial fuel supply. Makes little sense to send before the station is built other than to claim a buffer zone to box out other countries from co-locating stations in the same area.

Ive unfortunately found that some in the cycling community are bad about gatekeeping, and there always seems to be an excuse for why 'x' type of bike is inferior, you need to ride 'y' instead. Took me years to set foot in a bike shop after getting lip bc my old bike was too 'inferior' to work on

I ran Linux almost exclusively while I was in grad school (loved it) and am in the process of reconverting my laptop back to Ubuntu. My perpetual-use version of Lightroom is really the only thing I need Windows for. Going to set up a Windows 10 virtual machine for that, otherwise no looking back.

I reinstalled the app and couldn't recreate the error after that, have access to all of the layers now. Not sure what the deal was (on iOS).
March 15, 2025 at 4:01 AM
I didn't get any screenshots earlier but I just reinstalled the app and I'm seeing the other layers (and subscription tiers) being displayed now, so I'm not sure what was happening. Will definitely reach out if I see it again.

It must be an issue on my end, because as an occasional user, I really only want to view the different GOES bands a handful of times per year and I'm only seeing the red visible imagery available.
March 14, 2025 at 7:01 PM
I have no doubt that the Pro Subscription delivers on what is advertised, but the free tier is almost non-existent from what I just ran through.
March 14, 2025 at 6:58 PM
Maybe I just got caught in the drift between app versions, but I only see one GOES layer available for free, everything else is behind the subscription, which is contrary to what's listed in the iOS store.

I'm sorry, but it seems like a pretty rapid switch from those being provided for the out of pocket cost of the app originally and I did not see an intermediate option available when I booted up the new version of the app, just the $50/yr option.

I think as it relates to recreational chasers - abide by normal rules of the road, don't drive on closed roads, and light bars are (finally) outlawed. Otherwise, carry on.
January 31, 2025 at 11:26 PM
I did a quick read through and it seems like the license would grant license-holders the authority to activate 'visual signals' authorized under the act, be considered an emergency vehicle, and be allowed to access closed roads. Not sure it would actually stop law-abiding recreational chasers.

In a similar boat - I don't think I know anyone personally who would have been flying but I still know "of" more people in Wichita than just about anywhere else, so plenty of concern that I may recognize a name.

Good tips! Ive already deleted my Meta accounts so not much to do there, but also using a VPN that actively blocks and obfuscates ad trackers has supercharged my ability to limit ad targeting and data harvesting. Keeping location services and Bluetooth turned off on phones unless needed is huge too

That was an early find when I lived out there a decade ago, and totally unexpected! The second and maybe last time I visited I slipped on the travertine and nearly smashed my then-new Canon Rebel lol.
