To all my colleagues who write articles, supervise others who write articles, or both, here's a handy 'template' with annotation on writing a good article (and not only about bee-keeping and pesticides 😂). Thanks Rohit Chauhan #EduSky

Beyond belief: Reframing teaching as a science-based profession
Look at the table below. Replace 'teacher' with 'doctor' and see what you prefer. Why do you think that evidence-informed doesn't chain the doctor but chains the teacher? #Edusky

Our new book, Instructional Illusions, is available on Aug 29 (Europe) and Sept 12 (US). This is what John Sweller had to say about it:
Given the previous work by these authors, we might expect a superbly written book. And that is exactly what we have.

Today, I had a meeting with @carlhendrick.substack.com and John Dunlosky on how we will write a chapter on the spacing effect. If I had had a bucket list, working with John would have been on it. Truly a dream come true.

As if it were necessary: Learning styles are hogwash!
The study - using ecologically valid learning materials and a sufficiently powered sample - provides further evidence that considering learning style in teaching methods is not beneficial. #EduSky

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that John Dewey is ‘the root of all educational problems’ that we’re now experiencing, but I would say that he definitely is a strong contributing factor to the mess we’re now in.

Rich Mayer and colleagues studied the effect of gender and tone on learning from feedback. Neither affected learning, but... for the umpteenth time, female providers were perceived as more negative, less supportive, & less competent than males.

The paradox of progressivism in education: While progressive education (like all education) aims to reduce learning gaps and increase equity, it often does the opposite—it unintentionally widens those gaps.

A colleague showed me the reviews from a well-respected (not anymore by me) journal. Apparently ideology is more important than content and academic rigour. The journal has decided to stop publishing positivist perspectives! This is how far we've come, or how low some have sunk!
