We managed to wait a whole month and a half after the loss of two of our three cats to go to the animal shelter and adopt again. Meet Lady Gizmo de Gadgette (pink, very soft, got in my lap immediately at the shelter) and Portia the Explortia (tiny, whiny and affectionate).

It was hard, two weeks ago, when our cat Irene (left) died after a long slow decline. She was with us for almost 14 years, and she was probably at least 17.
It was devastating when, 2 days ago, Licorice Treat (right) died suddenly, amid some sort of seizure, completely out of the blue.

How do you sing a deeply emotional song written by and for someone with a strong 4-octave range, if you're me and your range is about 1/4 of an octave? Pretend you're one beer too drunk to care anymore.

It is with great sadness that I note the death of Irene, who sat purring on the desk while I worked or played or wrote for the past thirteen and a half years.

Frank has an interesting relationship with my school bag--he lies on it to keep me from leaving for school, and when I get home, if he can, he lies on it to celebrate his victory.
