It probably wasn't one of my better ideas to start reading Bluesky (yes, the whole platform) at 11.30pm but here we are...thanks to @odcamp.uk @paulclarke.com and @blangry.bsky.social amongst others for making it feel (a bit) like the good old days 😀

@jackgilmore.bsky.social Reading this thread reminded me of the discussion about access in your Gamifying session at #ODCamp

For anyone who came to the #DigitalIDs session this past weekend at @odcamp.uk, this thread from @paulclarke.com is essential reading #ODCamp
I'm seeing so many takes around parts of the "ID card" melange, I have to add a few.

It's not about cards. It's about registers. A register is a definitive 'true source' of data, about people, places, buildings, whatever.

@dsit-answers.bsky.social What a fab account you are! As we in Ireland would say "Hon the librarians" (it's a positive expression) 😀

All digital services must work well on sub-par connections, with sub-par devices, and make sense to "sub-par" users. For key individual-facing services a functional non-digital alternative must be retained. (Nothing original in any of this.)

@elizabethdigi.bsky.social Thought you might enjoy this quote #DigitalInclusion
These things always get repurposed. You'd immediately have to use the ID, with no exceptions, for loads of everyday services. Losing it would put your life on hold.

We live in an analogue world - the more digital it gets, the more ridiculous it will get, and the more cruel it could get.
