Introverted, left-leaning moderate interested in history and politics, strong proponent of the scientific method who thinks that facts still matter, lover of humor and happily remarried father of 2.
If an MD made no distinction between "skin" ca & stage 4 pancreatic ca, I'd get a 2nd opinion. If you called it fascism, I'd drop your class. Words do matter in context. I'm interested in stopping creeping fascism. Does someone else calling it fascism cause the creep to speed up?

Intelligence has nothing to do with how you respond to the current moment. Decency & courage do. People who are aware of what's happening & tuning out because the word fascist is used are complying in advance of when the nation actually becomes fascist. If they're not aware, they're oblivious.

Decent people know dragging kids out of their homes zip-tied in the middle of the night is wrong. maga thinks it's ok because the kids r "illegals" OBLIVIOUS people won't care until they're zip-tied. Those who tune this out because "the left" calls it fascist can justify anything.

I am not applying "fascism" to anything that isn't fascist. I never have. But if someone else fights back because they think it's already fascism, great. The more people that join the effort the better. The fight against tyranny is not academic, whether or not we've crossed into fascism.

Who is giving up now because they mistake our fascist president for a fascist nation? People going along to get along now were going to do that anyway until their doors got kicked down.
November 9, 2025 at 1:37 AM
That's exactly right. I don't care what we call it. If someone fighting back wants to call it fascist, let them. If someone gives up because it's labeled wrong, were they really going to contribute much?
November 9, 2025 at 1:33 AM
I get that we are not yet a fascist nation. We do have a fascist president who is doing his best. Why waste energy correcting people who don't see the nuanced difference between fascist president and fascist nation? The fight against creeping fascism isn't academic.
November 9, 2025 at 1:27 AM
Do you think if people call it fascism now they will be less likely to push back against fascism if/when we do cross this line? Just not sure what your point is.

At this point, I think "henchman" is the most appropriate title.

NOPE.

He's a sociopath. It is not insanity. Those with mental illness should not be stigmatized. BUT they cannot be allowed to use their mental illness as an excuse for bad behavior. He knows right from wrong. He doesn't care. I'll save my compassion for those who've suffered from trump's existence.
November 3, 2025 at 1:24 AM
The erroneous assumption is that trump wants to fix anything. This article was moot in 2017. EVERYTHING trump wants to "fix" is an excuse for a power grab. Policy arguments can resume when we have a functioning constitutional republic again.
November 2, 2025 at 2:18 PM
It assumes nothing of the sort. Just look at what is happening right now. trump is refusing to fund SNAP benefits, which will cause millions of children to go hungry. The GOP Congress is going along. You can't adopt your way out of this problem.

Where's the straw man? The political decisions of the "pro-life" party exactly match this meme. They don't even hide it anymore. They just hope no one notices. So far, their plan has worked. The celebration of ignorance allows them leeway to redistribute wealth to the top to be hoarded.

"... who mostly all voted for Kamala anyways.". Any data to back that up? I didn't think so.
October 25, 2025 at 7:37 PM
Being a good citizen and a decent person is resistance heroism. I'm not sure what this conversation adds to the effort to prevent a fascist state. I don't see many people complying in advance because they wrongly think it's already a fascist state, except for most of the GOP who are already lost.
October 25, 2025 at 7:30 PM
Mitch McConnell is more to blame than anyone apart from trump.
October 25, 2025 at 1:28 PM
in case you didn't notice, the USA has been consumed by the celebration of ignorance and the fear and hate that ignorance fosters. It's shameful that we voted him in. Twice. Garbage in, garbage out. Orange lipstick on a fat, bloated, disgusting pig.
October 25, 2025 at 4:02 AM
Right back at you.
October 24, 2025 at 2:03 AM
While "droves" is my characterization based on my observations and direct interactions with people in the rallies I've attended (at least as valid as your assumption that protestors most likely all voted for Kamala), worsening economic indicators & falling approval numbers support my assertion.
October 21, 2025 at 6:16 PM
Three different overcompensating "men" with extra big pickup trucks and obnoxiously loud and extra-polluting exhaust systems got pulled over and ticketed for trying to "coal roll" the protestors in Canadaigua, NY... to thunderous applause from the energetic and peaceful crowd!
October 19, 2025 at 1:27 PM
You clearly haven't spoken to people in those crowds. trump voters are joining the resistance in droves. He doesn't need their votes anymore. Now they feel it. Some people only care when it hits them in the face. That's ok. They're welcome to join our fight for the soul of the republic.
October 19, 2025 at 1:20 AM
It really is quite baffling that these people don't say anything about trump's plan to expand coal-fired power plants. The cognitive dissonance must be brain-melting. Maybe that's their alternative energy plan.
