I find trees, like many have through history, to be metaphors for humans. I feel emotion and even a bit of story telling evident in the stature, color, and limb position of trees. A group of trees standing together on the left, are they jealous of the beauty of the tree on the right? #nikonusa

Small elements in an image can alter impact greatly. Those green ferns on the left, that rock on the right, have visual weight that draw one's eye and up the trail. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #artphotography #creativephotography #acadianationalpark #mindfulphotography #nikoncreators

The end of fall color for me is just as exciting for me as peak. In some ways I find the subtlety even more pleasing. #landscapephotography #CreativePhotography #fineartphotography #elementsphotomag #framesmag #zenphotography #slowphotographymovement #PhotographyArt #nikonusa #fineartlandscape

With such bold colors, I wanted to compose to tone things down. The foreground brush is like hatch marks but with enough color to maintain continuity with the background. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography #excellent_nature #nikoncreators #nikonphotographer

I had only one day out of nine when the wind was calm enough to gain reflections. On this overcast morning, I was able to achieve all the color of these wonderful reeds (Jordan Pond, ANP). #landscapephotography #creativephotography #fineartphotography #nikon #nikonphotography #thinktankphoto

I enjoy the ability to create silhouettes against a night sky. The subtle airglow colors are a great backdrop. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography #elementsphotomag #framesmag #silhouette #moodynature #darknesslover #artofvisuals #loveofphotography #bevisuallyinspired

I like the metaphor of pathways and life paths especially with all the twists and curves. I made this image after a rain, everything was saturated. #landscapephotography #acadianationalpark #fineartphotography #creativephotography #elementsphotomag #landscapephotomag #framesmag

I'm not trying to replicate the awe and magnificence of nature. I strive to create an image that is its own thing, an artful piece inspired by nature and to be appreciated for the qualities that hopefully I bring to it. Here I'm working just steps from my studio/home where bald eagles hunt.

I'm drawn to spider webs partly for their design and partly for how dew on them reflects light. The branch and webs combined really evoke a mysterious, even spooky aura. #landscapephotography #intimatelandscape #closeupphotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography #blackandwhitephotography

This image made on slide film, was an award winner years back in a Nature's Best magazine's international competition. It hung in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum as part of their special exhibit related to the contest. Made in PA, but it's not about location. Still one of my favorites.

Red is like pepper, a little bit goes a long way. I composed to create a diagonal line of red. Compositions don't exist "out there," they are created. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography Elements Magazine FRAMES Magazine #photographyisart #photographyislife

A feather floating among the clouds. But the clouds are a refection in pond water (the point of surface tension visible). Rendered in black and white, the image becomes more abstract, appropriate I feel for a piece that is already a bit of an enigma. #landscapephotography #bwphotography

How one sees the world is much more important than what's actually there. The seemingly most simple elements can inspire something which is much more. I met an adventure photographer this weekend; my adventure happens wherever I am at.

A foggy morning yesterday when I woke, didn't even grab a coffee, just out the door. This monochromatic rendering feels mysterious with the passageway through the trees. It's a view I've been studying from our front porch for some time. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography

This image is of trees and brush but is really about line and texture, and contrast. It's one of the few pieces I've ever done in a square format, but I thought it was the right choice. #landscapephotography #creativephotography #fineartphotography #abstractphotography #elementsphotomag

This redbud tree was reflecting in pond water with a slight breeze. I composed to maximize the pink-blue contrast and timed my exposure with the ripples. I inverted the image so that the tree had a more "normal" appearance.

This is the image from the other evening that I will print. Blues, pinks, and greens, make for both a complementary and harmonious color palette. A sense of tension is present from the dramatic clouds, but the solidity of the tree offers a feeling of strength and security. #landscapephotography

I was out the door last evening when I saw the sun peeking after a passing storm. I don't usually chase light, but when I can do it locally......I'm off!
