This year's meagre harvest of Jerusalem artichokes turned into a veggie Jerusalem artichoke carbonara.
Made-up recipe but delivered real flavour.

I'm pretty sure no-one in Birmingham makes a better pizza than Amore in Moseley. This beauty, with an exemplary base, was topped with pumpkin, n'duja, ricotta, stuffed and fried courgette flowers and chilli.

The tiny Perro in Kings Heath is serving some of the most exciting food in Birmingham right now - dishes that are complex, layered and oh so good to eat. It's a wee gem.

Food bursting with well judged flavour at Note in Dublin - cockles with girolles and coco beans, monkfish with rainbow chard and a buttery tomato sauce and oregano, then damson frangipane tart with bay leaf custard. A great place.

A stupendous smoked pork chop with parsley sauce, cabbage, carrots and mashed potatoes at L Mulligan Grocer, a Dublin pub that champions Irish produce. Great drinks and wonderful service, too.

First visit to the newly opened Greek Aura in Moseley and I'll be returning....frequently. Lovely buzzy atmosphere, charming service and rustic Greek dishes cooked with skill and love. Go hungry because servings are generous.

What a beautiful wine, made in Lebanon by two women. It's achingly trendy - carbonic maceration, aged in amphorae, unfiltered - and there's a degree of funkiness. But what shines through in the purity of the fruit. Chilled, it was lovely with salmon and a punchy sweetcorn and chilli relish.
