Dorie Clark has given me many of lessons on her LinkedIn Learning classes and in her articles for Harvard Business Review, and last night she gave me a lesson in creative freedom.

Then @ryanecunningham joined The Finishing School for Writers. She started showing up to our daily writing sessions, getting in community, and making plans in our goal-setting meetings.

Non-writers: "Oh, cool."

Writer friends: screaming, throwing confetti, plotting your book tour.

That first acceptance hits different when the people around you actually get it.

Is an publication the end-all be-all? No

Are you still a writer even when you get rejections? Yes

Do I still shimmy when I get an acceptance? Hell yes.

POV: You finally have writer friends.

Which means:
👉 Misery has company during revision season.
👉 Joy has company when you hit submit.
👉 And you don’t have to explain why you’re crying over a paragraph.

Turns out, writing was never meant to be a solo sport.
