Happy 483rd to my man Anders Sørensen Vedel, born this day in 1542. I think I've read everything he published; it'd be kinda nice if he'd manifest some species of appreciation for that. Sigh. #skystorians #earlymodern

Academia dot edu offered to create an "AI generated descriptive analogy" of my book DENMARK, 1513-1660. Not ordinarily my cup of tea but I thought wtf, why not. Here's the result. Ugh. #skystorians

My 19-year-old son’s brief assessment of the NYC mayoral debate today has to be the funniest damn thing I’ve read in weeks. Proud dad here.

Friends, I’m doing a thing that’s not my usual thing. Thanks to WSU School of Humanities for the shout-out. #skystorians #earlymodern #danishhistory

Just found my dad’s mini-album of photos he took of his cat, Figaro. Stratford, CT, 1941. #catsofbluesky

There’s more interest in the poor parson of Vejlby than I had anticipated, and for that I’m grateful, but I also hate writing book proposals and I’d rather just sit here and just exist for a while.

In all the hours I’ve spent around Parson Quist’s church at Vejlby, this is the first time I’ve heard the bell. One of the coolest experiences I had on my most recent trip. [Not *the* coolest, tho. That wasn’t even in Denmark ☺️

Lion from King Frederik II’s (now lost) fountain at Skanderborg Castle, Denmark (ca 1573). Friggin adorable. #skystorians #earlymodern #danishhistory

Back from v productive trip to Denmark and UK. This unremarkable hillock was one of my goals: the tinghøj where Sønder Djurs herredsting condemned Søren Jensen Quist, parson of Vejlby, to death in July 1626. Near the village of Albøge, East Jutland, Denmark. #skystorians #earlymodern #danishhistory

How my grumpy little girl cat tells me she missed me while I was in Europe for the past couple of weeks: sitting behind a toy and complaining at me. #academiccats #catsofbluesky

Wiping away a tear, gettin’ all sentimental for the time when this (Provianthuset) was Rigsarkivet. Or *this* - Rigsdagsgården 9 - was Rigsarkivet. That was a long time ago.
Done with mss for the day. Time to check out some churches. #skystorians #danishhistory

I’ve been waiting to see this for years. The written exam taken by candidate Søren Jensen Quist, soon-to-be Parson of Vejlby, for Jens Giødesen, bishop-superintendent of Aarhus Stift, sometime in 1597 or ‘98. #skystorians #earlymodern #danishhistory

After working with the ill-fated parson of Vejlby for so long, it’s very odd to see his name written in his own hand. Here he signs off - as Søffren Jenssøn - for Vejlby and Homø parishes in Jutland for contributions to the livestock tax in 1625. #earlymodern #skystorians

From the account of Jep Skade's confession under torture, which ended mercifully with his beheading: 'Went immediately from the Assembly and thence to his death.'

End of Peder Vorm's confession under torture, 11 July 1634: 'Here besides Peder Vorm cried out in agony and said, "God damn you, Jens Mikkelsen... You forced me to do it, just come here and deny it if you can..."

V cool moment from the Parson of Vejlby case - here, the confessions of Peder Hansen Vorm and Jep Rasmussen Skade, for false witness leading to the execution of the parson in 1626. Confessions from 1634. Dombog of the Landsting at Viborg, Denmark. #skystorians #earlymodern #danishhistory

In a little more than five weeks, I'll be coming home to Denmark. It's been eight years since I've been back - way too long.
