Was Warne better than Bradman in the Ashes? Of course not yet two British papers have just said so.

Golden silence!

When Bradman got his last innings duck, the radio commentator

paused . . .

paused . . .

paused . . .

It was brilliant but today he’d be fired!

(Thanks to @norcrosscricket.bsky.social for alerting me to this a couple of years ago!)

Great tribute to Bob Simpson by Steve Waugh:

Foxtel really should be sending cricket commentators to the ground.

By not going to Darwin they reduced the quality of the coverage.

I don’t blame the commentators - it’s a hard gig to call it from a studio.

Game was in Darwin, commentators in Sydney - and it showed.

Can England do (nearly) a Bradman?

His last ever runs in Test cricket (173*) led to the highest ever chase at Leeds.

Ha! Nice to be quoted in the same breath as Gideon Haigh.

If you look closely, you might detect a subtle difference in our relative style and vocabulary . . .

Did you see the ICC video??

Meant to be celebrating the WTC final - but instead has 11 shots of Jay Shah in it.

It’s so weird! It’s hilarious!

An Aussie reporter gets deliberately shot by a rubber bullet by a US officer.

The reporter had done nothing wrong.

It should be the top 10 stories in every Aussie newspaper!

The shooter should be found, prosecuted and jailed.

How the hell is THIS the SMH lead story?!

Another low score for Labuschagne.

He might be down to one more chance.

(I look possessed in the thumbnail, unfortunately).

The war intervened and 10 years passed.

Now 39, Bradman’s last tour of England in 1948 again began at Worcestershire.

Could he make it 4 doubles in a row.

Well, he reckons he could have but he got to 107 and threw it away - to give others practice!

4 years later, in 1938, Bradman was 29 and at the peak of his powers.

He hammered 258 in the opening match - again against Worcestershire.

His 1938 tour record was astonishing:

Innings: 26
Not outs: 5
Runs: 2,429
50s: 5
100s: 13
Average: 115.66

Four years later, in 1934, the tour again began against Worcestershire.

Bradman had been ill throughout the long ship voyage.

A few months later he almost died of appendicitis.

But he still managed another double century at Worcester. This time, 206.

It’s 95 years - almost to the minute - since Bradman first batted in England.

There was speculation about how he would go on English pitches.

He soon made it clear, with a dazzling 236 v Worcestershire.

This was the start of his torment of Worcestershire . . . (a short thread)

Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to astonish!

Bradman was 17 when his genius first *fully* appeared.

There were no academies a century ago to harness his talent, so it is hard to compare.

But an IPL hundred at 14 - off 35 balls - is incredible!

Very sad to hear of the death of Keith Stackpole.

Part of the voice of my childhood on channel 9. Only last night I heard him on 1983/84 highlights.

Here he is in the Sydney Morning Herald, having a beer after scoring a century in Brisbane on the first day of the 1970/71 Ashes.

If SRH’s run rate was kept up for a Test match, 6,435 runs would be scored. #ipl
