First blush of colour on a tomato in our garden.

As always, the essential question is:
who gets it first, humans or other critters?

Janis Ian is so talented and inspiring, as illustrated in the American Masters documentary.

And if Bill Cosby’s hateful fear-mongering had been effective, her career may have been derailed.

But her light is too bright to be snuffed out even by his great evil.

So much is awful in the world, but enjoy a few seconds of this bee doing its thing and having the time of its life gorging on nectar in a wild rose flower

Still learning from my elders.
1. We’ve been helping my mother-in-law manage her large vegetable garden this year, including this cold frame that is loaded with greens that will feed a few households until the end of December.
2. Today’s harvest at the 43 parallel in Niagara.

Video alert:
After decades of living in Toronto, I started paddling the harbour 5 years ago.

It was at first still and misty this morning, but was clear by the time I canoed across at 10.

Very grateful for this great lake, which provides our water, transportation and recreation.

Every gardening season has highlights and the opposite.

This year was the first that I managed getting pawpaw seeds to sprout and thrive through the fall.

Ready for guerrilla planting.

Looking forward to reading @taras-grescoe.com ‘s new book, The Lost Supper

I first read his Four Fish, and all his books are worth one’s time, but I am glad he has returned to the topic of food.
