First dip back into the rockpools in SE Cornwall today, nice to see some old friends. Blue-rayed limpet, cushion starfish, gem anemone and shore rockling.

Only 5 moths in the trap this morning, but Merveille du jour the obvious star. A bit more quality from recent days, green-brindled crescent, red-line quaker, barred sallow. West Wilts. #teammoth

A few autumnal moths from the garden trap in West Wilts this week . Satellite and grey shoulder-knot NFG. White points frequent now. Feathered thorn a sign of the advancing season. #teammoth

Somerset reservoirs in fine fettle now. Looked at Cheddar & Chew today. Combined totals 36+ glossy ibis, 13 curlew sands, little stint, 32 GWEs at Cheddar alone, osprey, white-tailed eagle, 25 black terns, 4 greenshank, 2 ruff, 2 hobby, 2 marsh harrier, returning duck numbers building. #ukbirding

Nice morning at Slimbridge today. Best were 9 shags (and a cormorant, honest) upriver at 1130. Also 2 knot on the river, wheatear on the Dumbles, redstart in the hedge nearby, 3 spoonbill, 20 odd ruff, 3 green sands etc. #ukbirding@wwtworldwide.bsky.social @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social

Amazing couple of hours at Silverlakes in Dorset this afternoon. At least 6 male and one female scarlet darters the prize, but male red-veined darter, 2 male lesser emperors and loads of small red-eyeds. Unthinkable even a few years ago. @britishdragonflies.bsky.social

Another invert foray today at Chilcombe Bottom. These were new for me, thistle tortoise beetle Cassida rubiginosa, the thorn-hopper Centrotus cornutus, yellow-barred longhorn moth & iris weevil Mononychus punctumalbum. #ukwildlife #teammoth

Chilcombe Bottom continued. And best of the rest, Downland villa beefly (Villa cingulata), a pile of young spiked shieldbugs (Picromerus bidens), knotgrass moth caterpillar (Acronicta rumicis), and a wonderful lacewing, probably Chrysopa perla. Top entertainment. 5/5. #ukwildlife

Chilcombe Bottom continued. First up beetles, Spotted longhorn Rutpela maculata, the tumbling flower beetle Variimorda villosa, Welsh chafer Hoplia philanthus and the click beetle Athous haemorrhoidalis. God bless hogweed. 2/5.

Nice late pm wander at Wessex Water's lovely Charlecombe Bottom. Plenty to see, the tortrix Lathronympha strigana was new to me, smart false blister beetle Ischnomera cyanea, marbled white spot moth & escapee Rosa multiflora across the hedges. #ukwildlife #teammoth @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Good new years bash around Slimbridge yesterday, 79 sp, including spoonbill, whooper swan, GW teal, little stint, 5 cattle egret, ruff, kingfisher, peregrine, M harrier, WF geese, Bewicks etc. Coal tit a reserve tick too. The Frampton YBW was a real little star too. We go again...
