It was a poignant evening, gathering last night on the edge of the Garden of Gethsemane praying on Maundy Thursday. Like Jesus we pray that this cup of suffering will pass. But to pray is to protest and to sing is to defy. We turn from the darkness towards the light.

Missiles may have destroyed much of our hospital in Gaza but let it be known that we are not defeated. Already our staff are clearing up and finding ways to get the damaged facilities up and running again. They really are unstoppable.

Anyone who considers bombing a Church-run hospital claiming it’s a ‘command and control centre…used by Hamas terrorists to plan and execute terror attacks’ can reasonably expect to have to provide evidence. Warning to evacuate doesn’t absolve the crime of destroying the means of caring for the sick.

Today is 80 years since the Nazis executed Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer who was imprisoned for his part in the plot to assassinate Hitler. His words have never been more relevant and we need his moral clarity and courage more than ever before.
