Absolutely, Price was wonderful. People think he was English & worked for Hammer, but he was from St. Louis & AIP was his home studio from 1960-early ‘70s. He worked with Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing, and the three became close friends, so perhaps that’s why people think he did films for Hammer.

Price never made a film for Hammer.

Add in his wonderful performance in The Phoenician Scheme, and it’s been quite the year for Mr. Del Toro.

It’s not lost, but it’s not available anywhere that I know of. It was screened at the 2021 BFI Southbank but unfortunately the BFI does not have the rights (I checked with them), so for the moment it seems to be on a shelf somewhere. From the little I can find about it, it sounds absolutely bonkers.

You can get a copy on eBay. Quality is…watchable. Nothing like seeing Joan Bennett swan through the jungle with her perfect hair, perfect makeup, perfect outfit, and heels.

Vincent Price, a member of the Yale Glee Club during his college years, sang in The House of Seven Gables back in 1940, and in several other movies and TV shows — and on the radio, too — all prior to The Great Mouse Detective. Plus there’s his (flop) 1968 Broadway musical, Darling of the Day.

What a lovely essay -- thank you so much! I posted the link to the Vincent Price Fans group on Facebook, and I hope that got you some more views. Also...I LOVE the show Miracle Workers! I hope you had as much fun working on that as I had watching it.

Price was a progressive Democrat who spoke out against bigotry and racism and homophobia. I think even Egghead would be repelled by the ghoul Miller. Here is a more accurate comparison.

One of the joys of The Raven is Jack Nicholson’s miscasting. It makes the film even funnier. ☺️
