There was another story in the same comic called The Thirteenth Floor. It was 100% inspired by Ellison's I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream. A tower-block AI comp that had a sadistic & murderous streak. It created this VR floor where it would torture & kill folks it didn't like. Obviously I loved it 😆

If you want to see that comic strip, I have it here. David didn't even have it due to it not being released in the USA. It's about a kid who managed to play games on his comp for real. Loads of publishers tried to get their games included. Others like Ghostbusters & Gauntlet featured in it.

A comic strip of it featured in Eagle, in the Computer Warrior series. As a wee boy, I was over the moon 😀.

I've been watching the evolving progress of it for years. Rescue On Fractalus is my favourite game. I got my first ever video game jump scare when that Jaggi fecker jumps up at the cockpit window. I played it to death on the C64. I've even chatted to David Fox about turning it into a movie 😆

Yeah! I've heard funny stories that the production was so rushed & stressful due to low budget & short shooting time, that if lines simply weren't fluffed, it was a print. All the urgency & stress actually helped shape the performances. That onscreen fear & exhaustion was often real.

The glimmer of hope ending was forced by the studio to not have the bleak & paranoia peaked, psychological nightmare ending that Siegel wanted. Siegel tried to fight it.
