Working with National Writing Project teachers and students to create Writing Partners writingpartners.net a social annotation platform that supports AI-guided writing, reading, and discussion. I'll be posting here about what we are learning together.
This Writing Partner (GPT) is really helping me to think about this Abstract. writingpartners.net/documents/85.... #eduskyAI #AIinEducation #edusky

Every day we see young writers using AI Writing Partners to spark or challenge themselves to their next creative moves. The teachers involved in this project have carefully designed these AI assistants with an amalgam of composition theory and our own experience. Three examples from this afternoon:

Here’s another angle to consider: Will limiting access to “virtual interactions” while in school lead youth who are more prone to loneliness to “exert faster decisions to seek rewards”—behaviors that may bring more alcohol and drug use and sexual activity? www.nature.com/articles/s44...

More AI metaphors
“AI can extend our perception, but it must never become our compass. A lens clarifies what we see. A compass tells us where to go. The first enhances thought. The second replaces it, and true north may be a curiously human-centric direction.”

I’m wondering how to have a discussion about metaphors and set up a gallery for more conversation.

While I appreciate the value of this binary for establishing a framework for study, I also think we need a wider range of descriptions for how students use AI. arxiv.org/abs/2508.00717

A student-centered variation on this prompt idea is exciting to explore. Instead of asking an AI assistant for feedback, a student could ask the assistant to ask them questions about their work. www.techradar.com/ai-platforms... #eduskyAI

A lot to think about in this essay, especially how our teacher experience will differ from student experience … and more

What a helpful framework. I can’t wait to use this as an outline for our redesign of writingPartners.net

Come see how a new repository feature on Writing Partners allows teachers and students to upload documents and to write a prompt to access the information in the PDFs that they have saved.

I used an AI tool that I had designed to give me the structure and language for creating my own AI mentor to guide any project or inquiry. I did a freewite about my questions and this is what emerged: (see images) #eduskyAI

This is a pretty provocative claim to sake out. I can’t wait to be convinced, and more to the point: get insights into how to design with this shift in trust in mind. www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state... AI and the Trust Revolution: How Technology Is Transforming Human Connections #eduskyAI

@breesebbusyphd.bsky.social is presenting at ELATE today and she sent me this ncte.org/statement/ex... What’s missing from this statement are references to students going deeper in their thinking, sustaining effort, and expanding their creativity because of teacher-guided AI experiences. #eduskyAI

This approach to coding could be applied to teaching students how to think with AI. Writing prompts for AI assistants involves “habits [that] aren’t checklists, scripts, or hard-and-fast rules. They’re ways of thinking that help people use AI more productively.” www.oreilly.com/radar/the-se...

Significant progress on creating a wireframe for redesigning Writing Partners, starting with a simple text box, then authentication, then to choosing from three modes of digital discourse, plus one for making Writing Partners. Then selecting to start new, edit, or comment on shared work. #eduskyAI
