I grew up in Northern Ireland. We all knew the correct response to tear gas - running like fuck the other way.

The “open goal” is the most difficult PMQs opposition gig to pull off, because everyone’s watching expectations are sky-high and it’s so easy to undershoot them.

As someone with a nerdish interest in voting processes and electoral systems, I can see this being used in future university courses as an example of how not to design a voting system, because if this is the result then the mechanism is a failure.

Billy Connolly definitely did a gag about that

I lost my dad a couple of weeks ago. He contracted measles when he was 4 and literally the rest of his life was spent dealing with complications arising from the illness. He lost his hearing, required a kidney transplant, and much more. So much lost potential. Why risk that for your child?

It was a bit weird having a discussion on Musk being a candidate when he’s ineligible for the presidency on citizenship grounds

Was at a meeting with a human coder human in work yesterday. He described in plain English the changes required on the system he built to complete defined new tasks, and the benefits of the methods he was choosing. An education in how good software engineers don't write code, they solve problems.

A cruel twist on the story - in our house growing up it clear somehow got corrupted into being noon on the 6th, rather than the 12th night. So we all had to be up early on the 6th to go to mass (Catholic holy day) AND take down the decorations. Talk about ruining the end of your school hols.

One thing I’ve learned is that telling people they voted the wrong way, or voted for the wrong reasons, is nothing more than making yourself feel better. Fine if you want to do that, but it’s a retrograde step that either pisses people who voted that way off or makes them tune out.

It all feels familiar from her time in Northern Ireland. Big reputation and lots of talk and expectations, but couldn’t grasp the complexities or that she wasn’t the ultimate arbiter
