Real talk: This has been a tough semester, especially when I didn't get a job I applied for. But then a student gave me this note yesterday after we finished up the last class of the year, so maybe – the occasional rejection and frustration notwithstanding – this is what I should be doing after all.

Very excited that this article is out in the world! Lottie Beth Hobbs was a Church of Christ secretary, Sunday School teacher, author, and one of the most influential opponents of the ERA. But she's been mostly overlooked, so hopefully this article can change that. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

I was fortunate enough to review some timely books for a couple of great journals of religion recently.

First, my review of Diane Winston's 'Righting the American Dream' for @mccraryc.bsky.social and American Religion (open access so anyone can read it): muse.jhu.edu/article/943296

Spending a little time in old FBI files as I write my AAR paper, and this stuck out to me: Polygamous couple travels to Colorado to have their baby in secret, pay $35 in cash for the entire procedure (less than $700 today).

Average cost of childbirth in 2024? $15k ("only" $3k with insurance)!
