Could it be an inner ear problem? BPPV or vertigo. I get periods of extreme dizziness which I believe to be vertigo. Haven't been to GP as by the time I'd get an appointment it has subsided. There's a manoeuvre you can do yourself called The Eppley manoeuvre which could help.

Brilliant George, you make excellent (and humorous) points. As a child I nearly ate sweetbreads as my Aunt ordered them and I thought "I love sweets and bread" luckily she explained there was a chance I wouldn't be keen on that meal!
