I fully agree. Also there are things the game will never be able to fully understand. The player makes a compelling argument for advantage or similar. Or some situation where they should auto Crit. Or you put Holy water on the sword... Having the human check-in at each level is fantastic.

Yes! This is why in DnD I have a table rule that says if you had a successful attack roll, you can push your target 5ft, and follow up if you desire. max 1 push per target. This allows for some movement in the combat, while making traps/pits/etc a scary or beneficial piece! Also a "free" disengage!

Roll a die! And if for whatever reason you hesitate on the answer remove that choice and roll again.
