This is not surprising, nor is his disingenuousness a new trait. I recall an interview he gave years ago where he said how much he loves bookstores while standing in front of Elliot Bay Bookstore in Seattle (RIP), while Amazon was actively putting brick-and-mortar booksellers out of business.

Could there be efficiencies in indirect costs for research? Maybe, but mostly they’re just going pass those costs along to students who are already overwhelmed with tuition, creating an even larger gap between the haves and the have nots.
