Nonsense. Overwhelming majority of trade paint goes to commercial projects and they do care.

Decorating a business is disruptive so you want durable paint that maximizes the time until you need to re-paint.

Also don't be cheap with brushes.

My guess would be internal politics, loyalty cards provided useful data when most transactions were cash/cheques but not so relevant now. In my experience the % of people whose behaviour can be changed by loyalty programmes provide less £ than the cost. However those paid to analyse want all data

It feels like there is a distinction between those with an emotional link to the consumer (Oasis / football clubs etc) and standard consumer transactions. Almost no-one would accept TM behaviour from an airline but for your favourite band
