There was a piano-oboe-flute trio recital today at grad school instead of studio hour. Tons of new to me music!

Super commuted Philly to NY yesterday to catch this cello and piano program at Weill Recital Hall. I especially liked the André E. Godsey and Alan Terricciano pieces and want to look them up more.

Shout-out to NJ Transit for being on time!

I wore an octopus hat/cape to play piano for the Halloween choir gig. It was lots of fun! #Octopianist

Got to see Magdalene Ho play a solo concert tonight in Philly. She sounded amazing! The Bach and second Adès Mazurka were my favorites.

Super low stakes opinion but I think these maps need to be recalibrated. They seem to declare peak color when around 1/3rd of the leaves are already on the ground. I think the green leaves still on the trees add to the colors.

Like, what?? There's a Cosmic Wreath out there and I'm over here stressed about some dots and lines on a page.

We're reading Jack Viertel's book for musical history class in grad school and that's certainly one way to describe Frank Loesser's score for #GuysAndDolls #CornedBeef

If he were alive, I'm pretty sure Samuel Barber would want #SEPTA funded (niche post)

Hosted a studio hour for my three adult piano students today. They all performed, offered meaningful feedback, and seemed to enjoy the vibes. I even brought treats! 10/10 want to do this again

Ok, I am aware that the Frederic Chopin cello sonata is not an easy piece. Freddy wrote some *annoyingly* difficult music though. Like the rhythmic detail and variation on this page, ugh! IMO at performance tempo I don't think this rhythmic effect is worth the practice time #ChopinProblems

I'm not joking. Here's a recording from my lesson. Oreo doesn't like my voicing!

(Tbh it could be much better. I'm still in the relatively early stages with this piece)

Meet my piano teacher's dog named Oreo. Friendly looking and likes scratches behind the ears. Oreo also sits between the pianos during lessons and *judges* my playing

The students did so well the other night at their end of year lessons program recital. I work with the students in blue and I'm so proud of their work. #HappyPianoTeacher

Finally got footage from a non degree recital I did earlier this month and it's got *everything*

✅ Fisheye lens viewpoint
✅ Sepia filter
✅ Cuts out at 30 min because of battery life

What a trifecta! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Managing video recordings sometimes feels like as much work as the music

Love the sunshine but the curtains don't stay up anymore so I had to improvise a way to hold the pull chain in place. #PracticeRoomSolutions

This #PianoMeme inspired by my lesson today. We're so back!

Herbie Hancock is one of my all time favorite musicians and I'm happy for him to get the Polar Music Prize. This is an awful take on AI though. Can someone please explain to him like, how much water it uses? Or maybe just delete ChatGPT from his phone??

Returned my copy of the continuo score after the performance with a list of errata that I found. "Be the change..." right?

Is the PSMmusic artist on Spotify artificial intelligence or computer generated content?

Cheers to the new year and a fresh start on the practice app log. Let's hope 2025 is filled with music!!

The end of the Charlie Brown Christmas "O Tannembaum" arrangement reminds of this one part towards the end of Nocturne in B Op 32 no 1. Maybe Vinny was checking out some Freddy??
December 21, 2024 at 1:32 AM
I have to play this arrangement a couple of times this month. That piano texture (m1-4) is not in the original Jackson 5 recording but I think is supposed to reference Marvin Gaye's "Purple Snowflakes" and like, ok, solid choice Mark Brymer.
