Please take an economics course before reporting on economics: it is called equilibrium. Sure steel producers will charge what they can but the demand for domestic steel has spiked as foreign steel becomes much more expensive. This leads to higher prices. They only charge what the market will bear.
On a visit to a school bus factory, I was told that American steel producers are taking advantage of the tariffs to raise their prices. FULL STORY FREE LINK:

Went to hardware store to order new lockset for front door yesterday. Starting June 27, manufacturer started charging a 12.9% tariff surcharge. It's coming folks - tariffs are not magic, they obey the laws of economics - get ready for inflation.

There is a lesson here for Oregon Dems: relative taxes matter. We are not in a vacuum and households and especially businesses can easily relocate to lower tax burdens. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/28/a...

The notion that prices of US made goods will not be affected by tariffs is incorrect. Suppose there was an entirely US made car. As imported cars become more expensive, the demand for US made cars will increase and their price will rise as well. Tariffs raise all prices & is a tax on consumers.

Not to mention that tariffs will raise prices which is a regressive tax on Americans. And if you pair that will a repeal of income tax which is progressive, you are really soaking the American middle and lower classes. Huzzah for the Oligarchs!

City, county, & state policy does not happen in a vacuum: unlike federal policy there are no real barriers to the movement of people, households, & businesses across these borders. Our local leaders should be thinking a lot more about relative policy vis-a-vis neighbors, than about absolute policy.
