Your "acceptance" comes at the price of erasing our identities ("stop highlighting...life choices") and so is worth less than nothing.

No, they don't. But if they don't come out because of fear of adverse reactions from teammates, coaches, fans, etc., then their choice is being coerced and conditioned, demonstrating a negative atmosphere in their sport. And that is a problem that sport needs to address.

I'm aware. John Adams defended the British soldiers who perpetrated the Boston Massacre. Being able to distinguish between professional obligation and personal commitment is a skill, both for actors and observers.
