The First World War took the lives of about 2,900 Toronto residents, or about two per cent of the city’s male population. This map owes a lot to the Canadian Great War Project, which was generous about sharing its research. /2 t.co/Z2HMqKg2dk

Here is a working link to the original Poppy File map, which shows about 3,300 of Toronto's Second World War war dead at the household level. Click on a home to see details. The First World War map follows in the thread /1 t.co/4P9GUkl8m0

The problem here is that it’s pretty clear that having punched Prince Andrew, who is such a repulsive person on so many levels, in the face is very unlikely to bring you into disrepute in the eyes of right-thinking members of society, so I’m not sure where this legal claim is likely to end up

Pity the poor newsroom intern on this one:
"We need something on Syrskyi's statement on Kursk!"
"He doesn't seem to have said much. What am I supposed to do with ... "
"Never mind, make it work. I'll be in meetings all morning."

This *definitely* points to a Canadian/US cultural difference: you can work beside someone for years in this country without it ever coming up where, or if, they went to university, let alone it being a huge cultural signifier. @jbenton

I'm sort of fascinated that, given that the Taurus issue has become a major and controversial aspect of German foreign and defence policy, that Scholz hasn't ever tried to articulate or justify his government's actual position in public. Am I missing something?

The @nytimes's coverage of higher education seems to be founded immovably on the ideas that 1) there are three or four universities in the United States, none of them in New York itself, and that 2) readers have an unlimited appetite for controversies involving Harvard. /1
