If anyone thinks Labour will achieve anything like the notional share of 38% it got in the 98 locals or even the 36% of 1999 then I've got a bridge to sell you. The sheer scale of Labour voters abandoning the party in local by-elections up and down the land should act as a red flag for the party.

The line "Labour lost 1500 seats 1997-1999 and everything was OK" ignores that the Tories had been haemorrhaging council seats for the whole of the last 4 year cycle prior to 1997 and, therefore, Labour's high tide pre-1997 was much, much higher than pre-2024.

41% of these "nazis" used to be Labour. Voting Reform maybe a misguided cry for help but it is mainly a cry for help.

I think the big lesson Labour "centrists" should learn from Trump's victory is trying to scare people with the Reform (whilst adopting its language) bogeyman isn't going to work.
