Safely home in California! I protectively-packed, then transported these 12 hand-painted tiles from #Porto #Portugal in my carry-on. Here seen assembled on our coffee table, they measure just under 24 in x 18 in. Now, how/where to mount them? Hanging piece or permanent installation?

‪Me. Today. At one of a handful of No Kings protests in Novato, California.

Along with my wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, granddaughter, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and several thousand other unpaid, local citizens.

My granddaughter and I are working on one of our No Kings Day signs. We will see you on the streets on Saturday.

Despite what our wannabe king wishes, peaceful protest—and the exercising of our First Amendment rights—remains constitutionally protected. He's too quick to ask, "What would Putin do?"

"Haiti Crucifiee" by A.M. Maurice
Circa 1980s - 24 inches x 28 inches
Oil on Canvas

I bought this painting in early 2004 in Key West, Florida. I'd intended to go to Haiti, but flights there were abruptly cancelled due to a military coup. Today, I see it as "Trump & His Toadies at the Trough."

I have developed a technique whereby—when I can’t rapidly retrieve a word I know I should imminently know eminently—I quickly and seamlessly replace that unretrievable thingy with another thingy that suffices for use with most casual listeners. This technique has been working conspicuously for me.

A recent arrival from Livraria Manuel Ferreira of Porto, Portugal: A paperback original first edition of O ano de 1993, the 30-section anti-fascist prose poem by 1998 Nobel Laureate José Saramago, published in 1975.

For World Poetry Day: A section from my English translation of "O ano de 1993," a narrative prose poem by 1998 Nobel Laureate José Saramago. First published in Portugal in 1975, Saramago warns that the struggle against fascism is an ongoing one. 50 years later... still too true.

Yes, I'm fascinated by it, visiting it several times a day. Here's an unadjusted detail shot of the center taken with my iPhone.

Untitled by Sherlie DePhonce (Haiti)
36 inches x 24 inches (without frame)
Acrylic on Canvas; circa 1990s

I just received this wonderful painting--here seen now hanging in my home--as a gift (!) from a fellow collector and good friend. I am one lucky guy!

"Alors" - An original Pastel over Monotype
by Walter Egel Kuhlman (1918-2009)

Signed and Dated 1999 - 8¾ inches x 11 inches

Purchased at the artist's Sausalito, California studio 19 years ago. Then untitled, I asked Mr. Kuhlman if he might give it one, and he obliged me: Alors.

Just saw an interview on Ari Melber featuring Rich Benjamin, author of the just released book Talk to Me. This biography/memoir sounded fascinating. I picked up an eBook from Kobo (I'm avoiding Amazon and Apple) and will start reading it tonight.

A page from my English translation of "O ano de 1993" by Nobel Laureate José Saramago. An anti-fascist prose poem as relevant now as the day it was published in 1975.

Tentative English title: "Resist Persist Repeat"

Found this old favorite today while looking at the books behind the books on one of my bookcases: Port Tropique by Barry Gifford. A Black Lizard title published in 1980 and inscribed to me by the author in 1987.

This 40" x 30" painting--"Dambala Wedo, Erzulie Fréda Daromey et Maitre Ogou Fieraille"--by the acclaimed André Pierre has graced my walls for nearly 20 years. Now it's headed to a new home in Los Angeles. I've decided to head south for a few days and deliver it personally.
