𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 are now only allowed if the event occurs in a federally declared disaster area. This means everyday misfortunes—like a burglary or house fire—no longer qualify.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝘅 (𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗧): The IRS has lowered the allowable cap on the SALT deduction. A lower amount of your property taxes, state income taxes, and local levies is now accepted.

If your work area is used for any other purpose, even once a year - like a guest room - it's no longer accepted as a home office.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: The IRS now requires detailed complete documentation, including receipts and written acknowledgments from organizations. Many recurring charities are no longer recognized by the IRS.

𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 have been lowered dramatically, making it harder to qualify unless expenses are truly significant. Ordinary, routine and many over-the-counter (OTC) medications and equipment are no longer deductible.

Our family agreed not to buy presents except for children. If we didn't have something we needed or wanted, it was because we couldn't afford it, so others couldn't afford to buy it for us.
