I used to like the birds that tweet, but now I like the ones in the blue sky better. President & CEO of Birds Canada. Comme un balbuzard au printemps, je viens d'atterrir sur cette plateforme. On verra ce que ça donne.
Absolutely gobsmacked to witness massive raptor migration near Panama City this morning. Probably the most birds I've ever seen in my life! The video doesn't do it justice, there were clouds of them moving through. Nature is amazing. #birds #flyways

Great Blue Heron appearing unimpressed with the Canada Goose vibes at the Rideau Canal this morning...

Help garden people! Is my hydrangea dying? Has never done this before.

Can totally endorse the interior design choices of the Portuguese elite at the National Palace of Sintra. So far, ceiling artwork includes swans and magpies. #birds, captivating crowds since at least the 15th century. :)

Trying really really hard to work despite the fact that the cardinals from the backyard nest just fledged and there's pollinators all over the blazing stars and it's beautiful out. Is it the weekend yet!?

I'm honoured to be in Mexico City this week to meet the leaders of these conservation projects, which are part of Conserva Aves - an initiative led by National Audubon Society, American Bird Conservancy, BirdLife International, RedLAC, and Birds Canada.

GREAT NEWS! Birds Canada warmly welcomes the announcement of 11 new conservation projects in Mexico, which together will protect more than 115,000 hectares of critical habitat for #birds – that's an area more than 5 times the size of Fundy National Park!

Cattle ranchers who steward native grasslands play a critical role in protecting these habitats and the birds that need them. Amazing visit to @birdscanada.bsky.social partners in Saskatchewan – including SSGF, with whom we are leading an innovative initiative to prevent grassland loss. 🦉🤠

There's an awesome Chimney Swift roost right in Ottawa - it didn't disappoint tonight! These amazing #birds are threatened. Est. total population size in Canada is 20-70K mature indiv's, which means this single roost hosts a pretty darn significant population.

Lifer! The elusive Hairy Lawnpecker. ;)

Yay #birds babies! The Northern Cardinals' nest in the backyard just got way more interesting with the hatching of at least two little ones! They will have some pretty big cheerleaders in the human home next to theirs. (Had a quick check while mom was gone, this will be the only direct peek).

It's been fun filming wacky videos this year to raise funds for @birdscanada.bsky.social. (See my donation page for answers to all 9 mystery bird videos!). I will be joined by my family for Birdathon in Long Point. If you haven't donated yet, this is your LAST CALL! www.canadahelps.org/me/naX8G4zB

Great afternoon for some Long Point #bigday #birds with my pal @dickcannings.bsky.social. Heard a well-hidden Yellow-breasted Chat, amazing!! And the chat with Dick was pretty good too. :)

This was a regular childhood go-to of mine. They're now discontinued, but after much searching I found a store with a few left! Might be the last #cherryblossom #candy I ever have. Momentous.

Pretty sure that in Red-winged blackbird language, this team chant behind my house means "make the freezing rain stop". #birds #ottawa

Such a peaceful time alone on the the pier in Port Rowan today. It was very foggy, so I could only see the swans near me (Mute and Tundra), but there were hundreds of ducks, gulls, geese, cranes and blackbirds all around. Felt like I was witnessing the end of winter. (Sound on!). #birds

Swans in fog, swans in sun. 5 minutes apart in Port Rowan Harbour. Much needed quiet time alone on the pier... #birds

Yay my first Red-Winged Blackbird of the year! C'est le printemps! Funny that he's just minding his own business, not knowing how HAPPY he's makimg a human at the moment. #birds

Solid start to this KBA Canada workshop! Experts from across Canada are here to advance the conservation of these most important sites for biodiversity. Kudos to my Birds Canada colleagues and our partners WCS Canada, NatureServe, and ECCC. Read about KBAs here kbacanada.org (Rabbit-hole warning!).

Solid crow o'clock in Ottawa just now. I was at an intersection waiting to cross on foot and just stood there for 3-4 cycles. 100-150 #birds a minute. Never gets old.

Just a phone-through-the-window pic of a LONG-EARED OWL right outside the office today! 🤯 What a beauty! Sometimes I'm pretty sure the #birds know what we're up to at Birds Canada and come by to cheer us on. 🦅🦉🦆

Crow o'clock again over Ottawa, Canada! This happens every winter evening before sunset. Today their flight path seems to be about 500m further south than usual (which is over my house!), hence why the tiny specs out my window! Counting about 100 birds/min headed to the roost. #birds
