It shouldn't be too much to ask that the next FBI Director be able to pass an FBI background check.

Yes - this is sadly true. I spent years trying to tell the truth about Trump to his Christian supporters, believing all they needed was information about who he really is. Turns out they knew all along, and they liked it. Which is why they overwhelmingly supported him in the PRIMARIES. Oh, well...
It's increasingly clear that Trump's religious conservative supporters were not making a one-time exception for his character—they appear to be fine with this behavior at every level of government (provided the officials in question say the right things and hate the right people).
