Quiet. Subject to the roiling wads of thoughts that flop around my head. The noise can provide alternatives and distractions. But in the quiet all bets are off. Pummeled by myself. Luckily I've come to terms with many of the bruisers stuck in my noggin. We've decided that our greatest enemies aren't inside. Possibly delusion, but a nice one. In the quiet I'm the one to make noise. Breaking it with my voice, screaming onto a page. There are many silent ways to make noise. Somethings stitched together that I wrote down in a gap of quiet today: Morality stems from agency and in systems designed to rob you of just that things get complicated. Value every little piece of rebellion you can. Render kindness in spite of it all? Become troubled when being kind to yourself conflicts with being kind to others. Give advice you'll only ever half-take. Flail. Struggle. What do you want to do with the rest of your time? Find the beauty in yourself and dance with it? [Doodle: Arrows pointing to a bean shaped fella - the arrows are labeling it "you." All the other fellas are shaking butt, everyone except the you bean fella.] For better or for worse. To have noise is to not be alone. I suspect there to be a lot of crazy in quiet I have yet to explore. The kind of things people really sat with. Empty fields, uncaring skies, and being oh so alone and small. I want to deal with the unmalicious dangers of nature. The kind of place where you can scream until you become sick of it. Become swallowed by the world. I'm overdue for a road trip. I can't drive in quiet though, my thoughts become obstacles. Now I'll recommend some noise. Page 9 & Page 10: More Music Gracie Abrams - Risk I first encountered what I believe to be mania early last year. The symptoms appeared to line up - And it followed a realization of sorts. It was a lot of things, notably an upper. Intense energy, elated mood, mind going more haywire than normal, and both hunger and the inability to stomach food [I like eating, this was a problem.] In the following months, I believe I instinctively figured out how to press the little button in my monkey brain that would administer the mania - in small enough amounts that I was still generally functional, but out of my mind enough to FEEL IT. It mainly involved embarrassing myself in relation to the original source of the realization. Quite the good time. October 12th 2024 I’m finishing the second portrait to go with a very embarrassing letter. Drawing on a sheet of plywood in my ben [maybe 8 or so hours had gone into this one - I didn’t want to be too weird.] And at some point in the evening I run across this fluttery little guitar song of a lass with crazy eyes running around acknowledging the swirl of what certainly doesn’t feel like sanity coursing through her. And I can relate. And it’s a song I can dance to. So I put it on loop for the rest of the night. I finish the portrait. I do what must be done with it. And now the nini-mania is flooding in, energy that needs to go somewhere, and Gracie seems to agree - the song has only played maybe 60 times at this point. I take a walk with the jumpy guitar that seems to match the stupidity in my giddy soul. I go to a park with a swing. Swings are lovely things: free fall with some agency, extreme rocking, a crude method of launching your body into the air. Large swings for the cool-well-adjusted-grown-ups like me would be good additions to every park. I digress. I’m swinging - in the park - in the dark. Having a blast, going my usual 20 feet into the air, kissing the breeze, kicking branches normally well out of reach, feeling alive. And police lights come on. And move towards me. And an officer of some form in uniform informs me that the park is formally closed. And that’s cool [it’s not. I was being very quiet and strange.] So I left. And I wrote myself a lengthy note about the situation. And through all of this Risk by Gracie Abrams was playing. So I’d appreciate it, that when you listen to Risk by Gracie Abrams you imagine my “yassified Gollum” little self going through a roller coaster of a night, full of weird silly energy [and a small amount of tequila] getting kicked out of a park for swinging in the dark. I still put the song on loop from time to time. It has become one of the ways to lightly push the silly button. Very fun. Very fun. ~A little joke I tell my friends: ~ “I’m Gracie Abrams’ most well adjusted fan.” - Ben ~A different song now~ The Pogues - And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda - 9 minutes Notes: My favorite cover of the song currently. About an Australian man who goes off to fight in WWI, and his life through and after it.
