"When Canada was publicly framed as economically subordinate, the message landed with force." They started with "Trump threatened to destroy Canada's economy in order to annex the country" and turned the euphemism dial up to 11.

Foreigners on the receiving end of Trump's threats never thought they were funny or trivial. I think the US mainstream is coming to understand why, but belatedly, and we have a right to be frustrated about that
