I subscribed to Strong Words without knowing anything about it, except from hearing its editor speak on a BBC Artworks podcast. I'm now most of the way through issue 59 and enjoying it immensley. If you love books and the printed word, I'm sure you'll love this 📚. @strongwordsmag.bsky.social

Thank you, Monique. It's part of Europe from the Albert Memorial in London, opposite the Albert Hall

My garden continues to surprise. This beautiful rose was such a joy when it decided to bloom this morning - it did not look like it was going to be this spectacular when it was a small bud. The comma looks so full with life, too, its bright copper catching my eye. Took a few days to settle on leaf 🦋

Red
I slow to a stop
Here, be flowers
Here, be me
Rising from the green
Onward I go

The bee bumbles round, a ball in a roulette wheel, all its honey on red

The first bloom of my rosa mundi brings joy to my days.

Anyone know which hungry caterpillar this is? Not a quiz, I just can't work it out 😁🌿🐛

That's very helpful, thanks, Emma. I think I may have a couple of Ash in my garden. This tall one, about 60 feet high, may be one. With crow's (magpie's) nest to spy pirates and land ahoy!

One of my favourite local oaks. A beauty 🌳 full with leaf inside, waiting to burst forth. One of the last of the UK trees to spring into green, I believe

Met a frog on my way to the train station. Up early! Jump to it

Yes 😍. I have been gardening today and was admiring this little gathering

A brimstone butterfly settles among my wild geraniums. Second butterfly of the day, after the peacock earlier.

The long tailed tit darts around my branches, sounding like two ball bearings colliding against each other. It's too quick for me to catch in all its glory.

The magpies are nesting, high up above my garden seat. Barking like angry dogs
March 19, 2025 at 11:44 AM
A peacock butterfly has come to bathe beside me while I garden in the sun, a Robin sings in the blossom and a magpie barks quietly from up on high

Their heads do nod as I pass, gathered together in fallen leaves, not grass. How they whisper, how they #chime. With golden trumpets, they put on a play, and I, a crowd of one, do pause briefly to see. No fee. They're just the ticket for me, to lighten my step, lift my chin, begin this day.

A beautiful crocus sprung open for the sun, and me and every bee, and all who pass on this wooded walk.

If only.

I found some calm in the soil. Found me a worm as I dug, planted two white primroses, side by side to keep each other company and brighten the day, to keep me steady as I head on my way.

I did 😁 and yes. I decided on a very small book.

I'm glad it didn't ruin it for you. Talking of which, my last puzzle was of the ruins of Corfe😁 I love a good puzzle, good for the head.
