December 1st is World AIDS Day For those living with HIV, stigma can reduce people’s quality of life & has a negative effect on overall health. Shame, isolation, & fear that comes from stigma can drastically affect the well being of those living with the virus. For those not living with HIV, stigma increases the risk of transmission by reducing access to accurate information that keeps people safe. Stigma can also increase fear & anxiety about contracting the virus. In addition to this, stigma can inhibit conversation around sexual health. If HIV is not openly discussed, it puts everyone at risk. PASS

PASS News Recap Australia nears an end to HIV after 40 years of testing The Kirby Institute at the University of NSW found that HIV diagnoses have dropped 53% among those born in Australia in the past decade. Even though numbers have risen slightly in the past 2 years, likely from a rebound in testing & behavior after the COVID-19 pandemic, the long-term trend is downward. To close the gaps & expedite the elimination, the federal government announced it had committed almost $44 million, with nearly $26 million of it to subsidize PrEP for people who are not eligible for Medicare.
