An unusual map/cartogram find... The Sep 1917 issue of USNI Proceedings, in the section on "Naval War Notes," ed. by then-LT Isaac Kidd. An article on "Attacking the Great Germanic Fortress" presents the Central Powers as having a single fortification with various connected citadels and bastions.

Hans W. Weigert, Mackinder s Heartland, The American Scholar, Vol. 15, No. 1 (Winter 1945-46), pp. 49. The map is a variation of the one by Harrison in Compas of the World. Shows Heartland as it was define in Mackinder, 1943.

I'm getting serious about an old side project: compiling a more compete set of maps depicting or remaking #Mackinder's Pivot Area/Heartland map. Particularly those that are unusual, creative, or in other languages. Please flag/post any you know. #geopolitics #Geopolitique #maps @rgsibg.bsky.social
