Though the Self and our consciousness aren’t the same, they are proxies. We wouldn’t consider the feral children to be as conscious as us, even though there is consciousness.

Looks like Consciousness science has brought us a full circle, and now we are beginning to think that consciousness isn’t the exclusive property of humans. Animals, plants and inanimate objects too can be conscious on different levels…
