Appalachian ex-pat in Canada. Often absent-minded, sometimes profound, usually caffeinated. Can be found in a pulpit most Sunday mornings.
I was SO jealous when my partner visited Copenhagen for a course at this time of year. I was even more impressed when she shared a video of Santa Claus lighting a Christmas tree with a blow torch in a market in Roskilde.

The cookie is the human nature. The cream is the divine. The Oreo cannot be whole without both.

I hadn't thought about how debates about the origins of autism are so rooted in ableism. Thanks for sharing.

I listened to the final inning on the radio, too, but more like a Millennial in 21st century GTA who only pays for Netflix and second-hand furniture (including the radio).

Anyway, go Jays.

Interesting polling. Is someone doing work like this in Canada?

I recognize that church! It's even prettier in real life!

May I gently suggest Advent music instead--anticipating the arrival of divine justice with lots of songs in a minor key? ("Ploughshare Prayer" by Spencer LeJoye is a 21st century fav)

So--in conclusion--I ask again: do Anglo-Canadians especially struggle with lament?

Amongst his laments was a specific story about how some other church members tried to keep conversation with him pleasant and positive. After a little while he asked them to simply STOP.

This Christian couple can't seem to handle lament.

Eventually and despite his poor physical condition, he processed his emotions to the point that he could express gratitude. Amazing!

But before he could express, gratitude he needed to lament.

The visit started with some curse words that I had never heard the church member say before (especially around church events). And I sat with him as he ranted about his misery--especially because I judged his ranting to be justified.

Wait, wait...I need to make some corrections to my whale knowledge.. because it's neither ocean warming nor increased mega-ship traffic nor over-fishing that's destroying whale populations...it's...wind mills...
