This is Cricket, I hope to teach you all of the latest advice on parrot care, from food, to cage set up, to avoiding unwanted behaviour. I'll share the mistakes I've made on the way, so you can also learn what "Not" to do.
Another new rescue! Sky is 2 years old and has come with many health issues. This really shows the importance of healthy food and environment. Join me on her journey to health.

Lovely sunny day yesterday.

Lovely day in the sun today. Like humans, all parrots need sunlight for vitamin D. They use vitamin D to help regulate calcium levels in the body, for the ammune system, feather production and the immune system. Without Vitamin D, your parrot may suffer from depression, feather plucking and more.

Day 3
I managed to slowly move Yoshi to the bathroom and he watched Cricket have a shower. After I ran a little water on him. He didn't seem to mind. He's never had a shower, so I took the opportunity to wet his dirty feathers for the first time.

Day 2
I've let Yoshi watch me with my parrot and see how I can be trusted. I've kept his cage door open and he climbed on top and played with toys for the first time in his life. I've noticed that he's scared of my hand, but not if I hide it in a sleeve. I feel so privileged to be part of this.

Day 1
Yoshi was delivered in a plastic tub with an upside down shopping basket on top. The first thing I noticed was stress bars. Caused by trauma or extreme stress in Parrots. I also noticed the a couple of yellow feathers under his chin, which is a sign of possible liver problems.
November 24, 2024 at 12:34 PM
I've also recently adopted another parrot (Yoshi) that's never been held, never been out of a cage, never had a shower, on a diet that has caused liver problems and lunges if he sees hands. Follow me on his rehab journey.
