Printmaker, illustrator, tattooer and skateboarder based in Brighton UK. Here to share some of my inspirations, favourite subjects and book collection
Chas Wagner is one of my favourites! I love the flash of his that’s out there, even though I hear he worked a lot freehand. Plus the fact he loved wearing hats of different eras cracks me up. A true pioneer!!

Accounts for why it’s named flash vary, but the idea of pre drawn designs for client to pick is probably much older, but Lew’s marketing and selling of classic designs for others to work from opened up the possibility of tattooing to many with less skilled draftsmanship

Not only did Kelpra generously donate their print collection, the contents of Paolozzi’s studio was donated, being the largest collection of artwork ever donated. His body of work was vast and if you’re interested I’d highly recommend looking at www.tate.org.uk/art/artists/...

One of my other favourite aspects of interplay of sculpture and print is apparent comparing pieces like
“automobile head”print and “cyclops”

Using lost wax casting Paolozzi would imprint mechanical objects like gears to collage with objects as well as printed matter

The contents of his studio was the single largest donation of art ever given and is going to take a decade to catalogue. Go take a look at his vast span of art here

Paolozzi aligned himself to the surrealist and considered his work somewhat of a free flow dialogue of culture and the visual language of the world, and pop makes kitsch of what he saw as validity of the wider world compared to the classical views of the fine art establishment.

Up until this point the fine art establishment had not began to have the wide periphery that Paolozzi was declaring as art. Bunk served as a precursor to the Pop art movement, a title Paolozzi refuted as somewhat degrading and belittling

Roll onto 1952, Paolozzi delivered a lecture to The Independent Group in London entitled “Bunk”. It contained a slideshow of seemingly random array of popular culture flashing between images. Cars, women, Coca Cola ads, Mickey Mouse

Paolozzi grew up manning the counter of his parents Ice Cream parlour in Edinburgh. Customers would often give the young boy the free cards that came with cigarettes and gum. Made to keep his room spotless but had a wardrobe where his chaotic collection of printed ephemera grew wild

The power and immediacy of tortured life really resonated with my graphic sensibilities and spawned my love of Paolozzi. Experience is the title of the print created from tearing apart and rebuilding the elements of tortured life.

Working with artist such as Patrick Caulfield, R.B Kitaj and Eduardo Paolozzi, Kelpra aimed to show that Screen Printing was more than a commercial process but had the potential for creative artistic prints.

The married couple created some of the best modern screen prints using a humble hand built press plus an attitude of precision attention to detail and experimentation.
