The kind of sicko art I’m always looking for, wrapped in a gory bow of Jewish and gender introspection

I hope to one day be able to discuss the impact this had on me and hopefully others

Truly profound art

Took me a whole three volumes, but Shin-ichi Sakamoto’s THE CLIMBER has me fully locked in, and I cannot wait to continue reading it

Made the bad decision of buying SLAM DUNK volumes and reading it now

Not only does it have some of the best cartooning around, but to effortlessly capture hoops culture of the time and even now while still crafting three dimensional characters puts it a real step above everything else in the medium

The way Yoshinaga lays out of a page and really let you sit with a characters thoughts, highlight their words, demonstrate how they’ve changed through panel size and spacing just really sells the whole thing

It’s very subtle from her contemporaries I feel like. I enjoy it greatly.

I think Ooku’s use of its premise to tell a story about institutional dysphoria and how the ideas of second-wave feminism still crumble underneath the weight of it is a much more compelling use of the “men mysteriously vanish from society” idea

Favorite thing about Ooku early on: completely eschewing the entire narrative setup of a man joining the Inner Chambers in three chapters in favor of centering the narrative around the most powerful woman in the land coming to terms with how undermined she still feels in this society

Finished the first chapter of Ooku on my way to work and got hooked

This kind of alt history is incredibly fascinating to me, and the presentation allows it to personally avoid the trappings that I think a series like Y: The Last Man might face

Cannot believe I’m actually caught up.

I think I’ll finally tune in for my 69th film of the year

Not very sure how to start of this new lease on life here, but we’ll get to the point and ensure that my time here is vibes and vibes alone

And in the meantime, you can also see what the coming/current reading list looks like after I finish Vagabond
