Yeah I do think of delivery bikes as sorta exempt from this critique (though I think food delivery culture is gross and insane, I have mad love for the guys, who honestly dress up and care for their bikes better than most weekend warriors)

There are some categories of ebike I’m not really talking about of course: delivery bikes and kid cruisers being two

Like, I do see people on ebikes who I would never have seen on a bike 5 years ago, but why did this person feel they needed a battery for permission to ride on city streets? This feels like a marketing problem tbh that cities should solve. Most people on ebikes would do just as well unpowered.

When I pass someone on an e-bike on my regular ass 30-year-old twenty-sixer I find myself wondering why this person needs a battery assist in NYC. Most bikes in traffic travel at roughly the same speed (slow) in this city, battery or no.
