We have made some progress on the project and are proud to share the latest version of our project's newsletter with you!
PARENT NEWSLETTER ISSUE 2, DECEMBER 2025, STAGE 1 SURVEY COMPLETED, The first stage of the project included gathering information about Health Visitors' practice regarding having a dialogue about alcohol. We collected a total of 394 responses and the team is now working on the analysis of these. We will update on the findings of the survey once the analysis is complete. STAGE 2 - FOCUS GROUPS: Stage 2 of the project involves focus groups with Health Visitors to explore in more depth what we learned from the survey. To date we have held focus groups with 15 Health Visitors in Hull, Humber, ERY, and Derbyshire areas. The next one will be held on 11 December.  Health Visitors have shared their views on the barriers they face having a dialogue about alcohol such as families not being honest about their alcohol consumption, a lack of privacy during the visits with too many people attending visits, or time constraints, for example, when parents have prepared their own list of things they would like to discuss during their health visits, alcohol isn’t amongst the listed topics. They have also made valuable suggestions for how to address these issues in the future, for example by making enquiring about alcohol a routine at every visit and adding information material such as inlays about alcohol risks during and post pregnancies to the Red Books  If you know of health visitors in Derbyshire who would be interested in taking part, please email Arne Muller at A.Mueller@hull.ac.uk. RECENT PRESENTATIONS: Principle Investigators Lesley and Jayne presented at the Institute of Health Visiting's webinar "The power of asking: supporting families around alcohol use" in October.
