Nothing could have prepared her for what she saw. Solace was standing in the center of the room. No, she floating. Everything else floated with her. She looked ethereal: hair adrift, clothing billowing, feet together, arms outstretched like a marionette held aloft.

The light devoured everything. Her eyes screamed in protest, raw and overrun. Pain unfolded behind them, pounding as it went. Shapes moved in the glare, but none of them made sense—just motion in a world with no definition.
